Did PAUL RYAN Steal 'Bean' Story From KURT COBAIN?
October 15, 2012Did Republican vice presidential nominee and Tea Party darling Paul Ryan steal the story about his first child being nicknamed "Bean" from NIRVANA's Kurt Cobain? According to The Pulse Of Radio, that was the buzz on Twitter after Ryan told his version of the story during Thursday night's (October 11) debate with current vice president Joe Biden. While dodging a question about his extreme anti-choice views on a woman's right to have an abortion, Ryan related that he and his wife nicknamed their first child, Liza, "Bean" after noticing that she looked like a "bean" when they first saw her at an early stage during an ultrasound exam.
As a number of people on Twitter pointed out, the late Cobain told a similar story while he was alive, even making his daughter Frances' middle name Bean after seeing her on his wife Courtney Love's ultrasound scan. Ryan has stated that he is a big fan of NIRVANA, as well as groups like RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and TOOL.
In the debate, Ryan said: "10 and a half years ago, my wife Janna and I went to Mercy Hospital in Janesville where I was born for our seven week ultrasound for our first born child. And we saw that heartbeat. Our little baby was in the shape of a bean, and to this day we have nicknamed our first born, Liza, 'Bean.'"
To be fair to Ryan, one person on Reddit noted, "It is not unreasonable to think that more than one person can see an ultrasound and think that the fetus looks like a kidney bean."
Ryan incurred the wrath of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello earlier this year when Morello learned that Ryan enjoyed the leftist band's music.
Morello called Ryan "the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades . . . he can like whatever bands he wants, but his guiding vision of shifting revenue more radically to the one percent is antithetical to the message of RAGE."
